ACTION TECHNOLOGY, INC. CHOOSES PICK CLOUD FOR THEIR MOVE TO THE CLOUD
Action Technology, a Midlothian Virginia company, chose Pick Cloud to aid in their transition from on-premise to the cloud. Businesses turn to Action Technology, Inc. to fill contract and temp-to-direct positions for all skill levels. They are a certified woman-owned small business and are dedicated to filling long term and short term staffing requirements for many companies. When they realized their operating system was no longer going to be supported and their hardware was aging and unstable, they decided to look for a solution. Their choice was either to purchase another piece of on-prem hardware or look at a cloud environment solution.
During the final week of the evaluation phase, their on-prem server crashed. Luckily they were able to transition to Pick Cloud's Google solution, with little to no disruption to their day-to-day operation and were back and running. The cloud solution could not have come any sooner for them.
"Pick Cloud really saved our bacon,'' says Sharon Daniel, VP, and CFO of Action Technology. "If it weren't for Mark's team we wouldn't be in the position we are today after our server crashed."
By moving to the cloud when they did, they didn't have to try and retrieve the backup from the server that crashed, requisition a new server, set it up and recreate the data they had, all while the employees at the company waited for a system to access, unable to complete their work. They saved days, if not thousands of dollars.
Action Technology is currently running Rocket's Universe 12.1 on CentOS 7 in one of the many Google data centers across the globe. They are now able to take advantage of knowing their data is encrypted at rest as well as in transit (to and from the server). Along with migrating to the cloud they also upgraded their terminal emulation to AccuTerm to take advantage of their many new features along with using CirrusPrint for secure and efficient cloud printing.
"Performance has increased significantly since the move to the cloud with no connectivity issues", says Robert Glass, Director IT Services. "In fact, we can connect more quickly to the cloud server than we could to the one in the office."
